Environment is our homeland. Can we live without her? we say “no” to the question without any hesitation .If we are dying to develop regardless of environment protection, the nature will revenge on us . We cut off trees, occupy cultivated land for buildings and reclaim land from a lake, only to reap what we sowed. Widespread flooding serves to indicate this.
Therefore, it is not wise to develop at the cost of environmental protection. Deeds of environmental destruction are equal to kill the goose that lays golden eggs. From a long-term point of view, our descendants will be threatened by lack of land, resources, etc.
On the contrary, we will benefit a lot if we persist in sustainable development. In this way, our needs can be satisfied as well as our descendants.
Take the Silicon Valley for an example. It’s home to many large companies. These companies are applying their innovation to finding
environmental solutions as well as achieving surprising growth in economy. They are also working with environmental protection organizations to lessen the impact of their manufacturing operations on the environment.
Besides, more and more other leading companies and big cities have increasingly recognized the value of environmental protection. They are not as short-sighted as mice.
While there is life, there is hope. Development is based on environmental protection. Only when we protect our environment well can our country develop steadily in a sustainable way.

Some people think that the urgent task is to develop economy on a large scale. Surely they have very good reasons to support their viewpoints. China is still a developing country. Although we have made great progress in improving the lives of the people since the open-up policy was adopted in late 1970s, the living standard of our people is still rather low compared to that of the western countries. In some of the poverty-stricken areas, some people even can’t manage to get enough food to feed their families. Many poor children at school age have to drop out of school just because their families can’t afford the tuition fees. Obviously the only way to tackle all these problems is to further develop economy.
On the other hand, many people insist that environment protection should be a top priority. Their reasons are hardly refutable as well. As the economy develops, a great deal of waste gases and poisonous water are arbitrarily emitted and the environment has already been seriously polluted. In many places the rivers are contaminated so badly that people can hardly find suitable source of drinking water. In some cities, especially those large metropolitans like Guangzhou, the air is so severely polluted that people not only can hardly see the blue sky or white cloud, but also have to face big health risks. In one word, the environmental
pollution has brought great threat to people’s health and survival. Therefore, it is very urgent for both the government and every citizen to take effective measures to reduce pollution and protect the environment.
In my opinion, both economic development and environmental protection are our urgent tasks now. Nobody is willing to live a poor life in order to enjoy the fresh air and clean rivers. Also you can’t imagine that people can have a happy, rich and healthy life in a badly polluted environment where you can’t even breathe freely. Although economic development and environmental protection may sometimes conflict with each other, they are not at all enemies. We don’t have to sacrifice one for the other. We can, and we should, have them both at the same time. On the one hand, we should try our best to develop economy to improve the living standard of the whole society. On the other hand, we must spare no efforts to make this world a cleaner and better place to live in by reducing any possible pollution with a necessary determination of every member of the society and the help of science and technology. Only when mankind coexists with the nature in harmony can we achieve the aim of sustainable development.

Some people think that the urgent task is to develop economy on a large scale. First, they hold that many people, especially in rural areas, are living in poverty. Second, they believe only by further balance and developing our economy can we get rid of poverty and gain the overall prosperity.
On the other hand, many people insist that environment protection should be a top priority. First, they claim that we have only one mother earth, if our ecological environment is heavily polluted or ruined, we could not even survive on this planet. Second, they believe, it’s the rapid and advanced development of economy that leads to the present situation that most parts of the world are polluted. If the problem left unsolved, one day we may have nothing to drink, let alone develop our economy.
In my opinion, both economy and environment protection are our urgent tasks now. Without economic development, we should remain backward. Moreover, we might be conquered or bullied by other powerful countries. And without environment protection, we should lose

As a developing country, china has become the second largest economy in the world. China has achieved tremendous economic growth. With the development of our economy more and more environmental problem have arisen. Such as pollution problems, loss of farmland etc. some people think the urgent thing is to develop economy on large scales; but on the other hand, some people believe protecting environment is top priority; Some people think both developing economy and protecting environment are equally important. I believe that protecting the
environment is more important than economic development.
